Letters of the Week
Consolidation of Concepts
Unit 6, reviews and builds on our understanding of numbers through 100 and encourages the children to use numbers to express quantities of money, time, and length. We will build on our calendar book knowledge of money and work with pennies, nickels, and dimes. We have learned how many pennies make 100 cents, but now we will learn how many nickels it takes to make 100 cents, and how many dimes it takes to make 100 cents. We will work with time by doing activities with clocks and calendars. And the children will be introduced to the concept of measurement.
The color for May is purple. We will be using purple for as many activities as possible. Our shape for the month is a cone. We will make a collection of cone shaped things in our classroom. This helps the children make the connection between a shape and the shape in the real world. Each child is invited to bring an cone shape or two to add to our collection. These shapes will be returned at the end of the month.
