News and Notes:

"...for I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." Psalm 139:14a

Religion:  Our newest unit is about Jesus, the Bringer of Good News.  Through both His teaching ministry and His dealings with people, Jesus truly brought Good News.  He carefully nurtured people with this Good News.

We see Jesus as our Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep.

Jesus teaches that God wants all people to be ready for Judgment Day.

We ask God to enter our hearts as we study His Word and share it with others.

Reading:  Grade four has been learning about story structure.  Elements of a story, characters, setting, plot, and solutions to problems are all being studied.

Grade five is focusing on making inferences from information provided within the plot of a story.

Language:  Using helping verbs and identifying main verbs are the areas we are presently studying.

Social Studies:  The Southeastern region of the United States is our focus.  We each have a state we are researching to share information about its resources, population, admission to the Union as a state, interesting attractions in the state, and famous people from that state.

Missions:

Our mission project for fourth quarter is called Peru Water Project.  The purpose is to build reservoirs in which water can be stored and treated for safe consumption.

Because of an earthquake that occurred in Peru about three years ago, the water available to the poor inhabitants of Peru is not sanitary and causes illness and diarrhea in children.  Many young children ultimately die.

One bag of cement for construction of the reservoirs costs $5.33.  Our goal is to collect at least $300 which would provide about 57 bags of cement.  The project is part of the LCMS Sparkler Mission program.
